Is This The New Party Trend? Now Daisy Lowe Throws A '90s Themed Birthday Bash

This morning our instagram feeds were filled with white platform boots, Aaliyah and Lil Kim lookalikes and tiny crop tops. We thought we'd woken up in the wrong decade, but no the confusion was all thanks to Ms Daisy Lowe who celebrated her birthday last night by going back to the 90s.

To celebrate turning a year older she dressed as Patricia Arquette in True Romance and put on a blonde wig, a cow print micro mini and flashed her turquoise bra, meanwhile her friends dressed as Spice Girls and 90s hip hop icons. Eliza Doolittle dressed as Aaliyah in dungarees and a teeny tiny white sports crop top, while her pal went as Lil Kim in a candy floss pink crop top, jacket and matching wig. Boo-ya!

Daisy isn't the only star to have a 90s themed partay, as this is the new bangin', totally fly theme for fancy dress parties. You might remember Katy Perry put on her skates and hosted a 90s themed roller disco for her birthday. She wore her best floral crop top and matching cycling shorts, with denim cut-offs over the top and carried a purple backpack. Like a true child of the 90s she topped off the look with lots of clips in her hair, candy coloured sunnies, a black choker necklace and a Ty Beanie Baby in her hand.

It's hardly surprising that the Spice Girls are big stuff in the world of 90s themed birthday parties, as Portia Freeman went to Daisy's dressed as Baby with her hair in high pigtails, a red glittery top and an obligatory pink Chupa Chup. Rochelle Humes from the Saturdays went to a 90s themed birthday in December dressed in head to toe leopard, while bandmate Frankie dressed up as Posh Spice in a tight LBD and black bob wig. Zig a zig ahhhh.

If you're thinking of hosting a 90s bash, take a look at our top 10 icons of the 90s to get some costume inspiration. Why not put on a yellow check suit and knee highs à la Cher Horowitz, or go as Gwen Stefani from her No Doubt days in crop tops and spiked hair worn with a hella lot of attitude. You could also go like Drew Barrymore the 90s flower child and wear tie-dye, neon and daisies in your hair or pair some Doc Martens with a nightie and rock 90s grunge like Courtney Love.

So for your next birthday, put on your highest Buffalo platforms and brush up on your 90s catchphrases and throw a 90s themed party. Get inspiration from Daisy Lowe and Katy Perry's tie-dye fests in the gallery above...
